Spray Tan FAQ & Care Guide

Before Your Appointment

Should I wax, shave, or get other beauty services before my spray tan?
Yes. Waxing, shaving, manicures, pedicures, facials, and other exfoliating treatments should be completed before your spray tan appointment whenever possible.

Should I exfoliate before my spray tan?
Absolutely. Exfoliating 24 hours before your appointment helps remove dry skin and creates the smoothest surface for an even, longer-lasting tan. Avoid oil-based scrubs, as they can leave a barrier on the skin.

Can I wear lotion, deodorant, or makeup to my appointment?
For best results, arrive with clean, dry skin free of heavy lotions, oils, perfumes, makeup, or deodorant. These products can affect how the tanning solution develops.

What should I wear after my spray tan?
Wear loose-fitting, dark clothing and open-toed shoes if possible. Tight clothing, bras, leggings, and socks may rub against the developing tan and cause uneven results.

After Your Appointment

How long should I wait before showering?
Wait at least 8 hours before showering, swimming, exercising, or anything that may cause excessive perspiration.

What happens during my first shower?
Your first rinse should be a quick lukewarm shower without soap. You may notice some cosmetic bronzer washing away—this is completely normal. Your developed tan will remain underneath.

Can I work out after my spray tan?
No, please avoid exercise, sweating, swimming, hot tubs, saunas, and other activities that may cause moisture on the skin until after your first rinse.

Extending Your Tan

How long will my spray tan last?
Most spray tans last approximately 5–10 days, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and home care routine.

How can I make my tan last longer?

A little aftercare goes a long way in extending the life of your spray tan.

  • Moisturize daily to keep skin hydrated and reduce uneven fading.

  • Use gentle, sulfate-free body washes when possible.

  • Avoid harsh exfoliants, scrubs, and loofahs until you're ready to remove your tan.

  • Pat skin dry after bathing rather than rubbing with a towel.

  • Limit long hot showers, hot tubs, chlorinated pools, and excessive sun exposure.

For guests who want to maximize the life of their tan, we recommend using our Faux Fox Tan Extender daily. This lightweight moisturizer helps keep skin hydrated, promotes a more even fade, and can help extend the appearance of your spray tan for several extra days.

Why do my face, hands, and feet fade faster?
These areas naturally exfoliate more quickly due to frequent washing and daily activity, so fading typically occurs sooner than on the rest of the body.

When should I schedule my next spray tan?
Most guests maintain their glow by scheduling a spray tan every 7–14 days, depending on their desired level of color and upcoming events.
